Technical development is linked to novel and modern materials in a special way. Thereby, the material sector experiences an increasing differentiation by chemical producton processes. The highly developped synthesis chemistry comes more and more to the fore.
Inorganic and organometallic compounds are constittionally and structurally variable in many ways. Thus, they feature the requierements for the production of materials with exactly adjustable atributes. Surface technology, corrosion and abrasion protection, photovoltaiks, micro-electronic devices and high temperature super conductor belong to technological sectors, where new developments rely essentially on basic knowledge about the chemistry of inorganic and organometallic materials and revert to the art of synthesis.
Depending on the application, there are requiered fine coats, powders, amorphous or crystalline phases, which must be considered in the choice of the precursors. The special importance of the molecular pre-stage for the production of new materials with special mechanical, optical and magnetic features is a key aspect of our research interests, especially as the engenineers' classic material research experiences a revival. For the first time, we succeeded in building pure oxide ceramics from polymere metaloxides (e. g. poly-MTO)
